March is National Engineering and Geoscience Month

Every year in Canada, Engineering and Geoscience are celebrated throughout the month of March. This year is no exception and each province and territory is hosting events.

For example, in BC, the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC) and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC) are hosting a drawing contest for children, ages 4-12. Also, Science World will be showing Dream Big: Engineering Our World beginning March 4. And, to raise awareness of geoscience, the Britannia Mine Museum is hosting DIG Day! on March 25, 2017.

I would like to do my part in raising awareness since I am an engineer, I know lots of engineers, and I have two young girls that I want to be excited about engineering, whether they become engineers or not. So, to do just that, I am going to do a series this month sharing the adventures of a few “everyday” engineers that I know.

Each engineer is going to tell you in their own words how they came to be an engineer, the type of work they do, and the adventures they’ve had along the way. Stay tuned!
